About Tom
I've been investing since I was 18, which is 14 years now. Over that time I've used most of what's available to UK investors: stocks and shares ISAs, general investment accounts and workplace pensions, as well as higher-risk products like CFDs, forex, options and crypto.
That range taught me how much the account you use, and what you pay for it, shapes the result, and how quickly complex products can go wrong for people who don't fully understand them. I write the guides I wish I'd had when I started: what things are, what they cost and where the risks are, checked against official sources.
Away from Investing Desk I work in digital marketing and regulated advertising, which means I spend a lot of time thinking about the gap between what financial products promise and what the small print says.
How Tom researches guides
Every guide follows our editorial policy: each figure and rule is checked against a primary source such as GOV.UK, HMRC or the FCA, the sources are listed on the guide, and the date of the last check is shown at the top.
